Milan!

The University
Yesterday we flew to Milan to start our Italian vacation. We are staying at the Hotel Sant'Ambroeus. It was great fun for Jennifer to come back to Milan since she lived here in 1987/88. She has been doing quite well communicating with folks, even though her Italian is a bit rusty. We saw the school she attended -- Università Cattolica -- and even found her favorite pizzeria: Pizzeria Meucci. Believe it or not, it was still there! Unfortunately, her church Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio was closed for reconstruction until September.

After lunch at Meucci we went to Castello Sforzesco and the kids enjoyed walking through the surrounding gardens.

Finally we went to the famous Duomo. We were almost not allowed inside because Sophie's shorts were deemed "too short". But she wrapped a sweatshirt around her waist and got past the guards. It is spectacular. The kids got bored, however, so we went to the Galleria and ate gelato.
