Bodysurfing Mavericks

Seems impossible, but apparently someone has tried bodysurfing at California's big-wave break: Mavericks in Half Moon Bay.

Palm Springs Pictures

We took another short trip over to Palm Springs last weekend. Sophie had a "sleepover" at a friend's vacation home there, so the rest of us stayed at a nice hotel nearby (the Doral). Here is a video of Cindy chasing ducks right outside our room on the ground floor. The hotel was on a golf course and our room was right by a water hazard, which is why there were ducks running around.

Back to Torrey Pines

Sophie's friend Rebecca came to visit from San Jose last weekend, so we took her to my new favorite place: Torrey Pines Reserve. This time we did the Guy Flemming Trail which includes some breathtaking views of the ocean.

Home Web Site

I now have a photo-sharing web site set up on my home PC, and I'm leaving my PC on 24x7 so people can access it:

This has ALL of the digital photos I have EVER TAKEN! I'm using a free software package called FlashBack that I found on the web. Email me to get the password if you're interested.

Comments are working again

You may have noticed that I had some technical difficulties with the commenting system. Apparently, my hosting facility recently added a Perl module called Template.pm which means something completely different from the Template.pm that is used in cgicomments. The name collision resulted in no HTML being returned in the comment popup window. I was able to fix it by moving my Template.pm to a sub-directory called html and then changing the reference to "use html:Template".

Harry "the Hipster" Gibson

I recently discovered a great jazz piano player who was popular from 1930 to 1950: Harry "the Hipster" Gibson. His songs have these hilarious "jive talk" lyrics (see Cab Calloway's Jive Dictionary), and the music is great. I just bought two of his CDs:The first is a relatively recent (1990) recording of his old stuff. The second is from the '40s -- the CD is now out of print, but I bought it on eBay. Take a listen to the samples on Amazon. I blew my wig listening to this solid cat!
