Torrey Pines Nature Walk
Cindy and I went for a "Daddy-daughter day" walk at the Torrey Pines State Reserve today. It was a beautiful day and we were able to take the docent-led Nature Walk. Cindy seemed to enjoy it, although I don't think she understood a lot of what we heard about the native plants.

GloFish
Here's a cool new item: a genetically-engineered fluorescent fish!
Believe it or not, scientists created this special breed of zebra fish as part of a research project to make a fish that will flouresce in the presence of environmental toxins. They aren't quite there yet, but in the meantime, alert marketing folks have been hawking them as aquarium fish. Find out more at http://www.glofish.com.
Unfortunately, the California Fish and Game Commision has not yet approved the fish here, so don't try to send me one for my birthday.

Everest Project
Over the break, Thomas had to do a book report in the form of a float (inspired by the Rose Parade). Of course we only realized this the Saturday before it was due. Thomas and I spent most of Sunday working on it, and here are the results. His book was about the first men to reach the top of Mount Everest.
If you've got QuickTime on your PC, you can look at this 360 degree panorama taken from the top of Mount Everest.

Wikipedia
I just came across the Wikipedia today. This is an amazing project. It is a free online encyclopedia that is authored by anyone and everyone! When you are reading an article, simply click "edit this page" to revise the article. It sounds like you would get a bunch of junk, but from what I can tell, it works. The amazing thing about this encyclopedia is the incredible breadth of information that it contains.
