My trip to Legoland

(Special message: This story was cut short for special reasons.)

Thomas Graf

One afternoon, I was reading my favorite book-A Series of Unfortunate Events The Bad Beginning. Suddenly, the phone rang. My mom picked the phone up and listened. “Yea…mmmmmhhhhhhhhmm…oh, he’d love to!!” She hung up and spoke to me excitedly. “Guess what?!?!”

“What?”

“Alex has invited you to Legoland!!”

I Gasped. “YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!” I yelled. It was so scary! Earlier that day, I had wished that I could have been invited somewhere with Alex. And now, I had been invited to Legoland! It was SO SCARY!!

“Well, you better get ready if you want to go to Legoland with Alex.” My mom said.

“OK!!” I said.

“You’ll have to put on sunscreen.” My mom said sternly.

“Oh,” I said.

“Do you still want to go?” asked my mom.

“Of course!” I said excitedly.

“OK,” said mom. “You better start getting ready. Alex will be waiting.”

Boy was I going crazy! I ran into the bathroom and got out the sunscreen. I ran back to the kitchen and opened the sunscreen. Mom helped me spread it on. I was so excited that I almost forgot to pack my lunch.

When I was ready, we got into our car and drove over to Alex’s. Alex and his mom and his big brother, Brandon, were waiting on the driveway. “Hi Alex!” I said.

Alex was a shy guy. He barely said anything. This time though, he said “Hi” loud and clear.

“Well, let’s go!” said Brandon.

“We will have to get things ready first,” said Mrs. Wong. “You get in the van. We’ll get things ready.” Alex, Brandon and I got into the big olive-green van. Mrs. Wong and my mom headed into the house; I guessed they were getting ready, though my mom…well…oh you guessed it, she wasn’t coming with me.

The movie Shrek2 had just come out, and I was curious if Alex and Brandon had seen it. “Have you seen Shrek2 yet?” I asked.

“You bet,” said Brandon. I can’t remember what day he said, but that does not really matter. “There was this funny part when Donkey had drunk this potion and he fell in love! He said ‘I just drunk it up-and now I’m sexy!’ It was so hilarious!”

I cracked myself up. I thought it was really funny too!

Just then, Mrs. Wong came out of the house. “O.K. it’s Legoland bound!”

“Oh, boy!” I said excitedly.

Mrs. Wong giggled. “You’ve never been to Legoland?” she asked.

“Nope.” I replied.

“Well, this will be your first time there. I hope you will enjoy your first visit.” Mrs. Wong started the engine and we started down the driveway.

“Bye, Thomas!” my mom called.

“Buh Bye Panice!” said my little sister Cindy. “Panice” is my name in Cindy language. Cindy has her own dictionary of names in Cindy language. “Fufi” is Sophie’s name in Cindy language. “Mamy” is my mom’s name in Cindy language. “Dada” is my dad’s name in Cindy language. I don’t think my little brother Anthony was born when I went to Legoland, but his name in Cindy language is “Beby Adony”!

We drove down the driveway and out into the street. “Bye, bye!” my mom and Cindy would keep on shouting. We started down the road and down past Dingeman and out of sight.

When we were on the freeway, Alex took out his Gameboy Advance and started playing Super Mario. After a while, Mrs. Wong said, “Alex, let your friend play.”

“It’s okay I don’t feel like playing.” I said and then there was silence.

The first thing we saw when we got out of the car was a dragon trash can made out of legos. “Weird!” I said when I saw it.

Alex, Brandon and Mrs. Wong didn’t make any comment about it. I was amazed when I saw the huge structure made out of GIANT legos. And there were lego people standing on top of it. I was wowed! I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. We walked to the take-out counter and got our tickets. It took a while, But finally, we were on our way to the opening gate. We gave the tickets to the manager. He tore them, and gave the other half to us. We walked through the opening gate, and headed toward the Disney section.

The first ride was a boat ride with a very long line. Finally, we were on our trip. It was such a baby ride! So babyish, I won’t even explain it to you. I was relieved when we got out of the boat.

(I am telling you that this is the part where I am cutting the story short, jumping all the way to the end of my trip to Legoland.)

Here I am, telling you about the shocking end of the story. This was the first, first, and only first time in my life that I was about to ride a roller coaster. This coaster was called…The Coastersauras at Dino World!!! I was a little scared at first, but I managed to toughen up and climb onto the third-to-last seat and lower the lap bar with Brandon at my side.

The manager pulled the start-and-stop lever and we rumbled out of the station and up the 18-foot-hill, and I peered over the side of the seat. It was quite a shock. Suddenly, we plunged down the curving hill and down to the bottom. I was screaming my loudest. Just then, we jolted to the left and went through a 76-degree turn-twice! I found myself screaming even louder. We went through another hill and into the station.

I thought it was over, but then we were climbing up the first hill again and then we plunged down again. I was screaming even louder than I had ever screamed before. When we pulled back into the station, the operator pulled on the brakes and we slowed to a stop. When I climbed off, I was dizzy! But soon I managed to get control of myself and run down the exit ramp after Alex.

When I got to the bottom, Mrs. Wong asked, “Do you want to go again?”

That ride was out of this world! There was no way I could stop myself from saying, “Yes!!”

So I boarded again, this time on the second seat. The manager pulled the start-and-stop lever and we rumbled out of the station. We climbed up the hill and we careened down that 18-foot drop, and through that awful brain-exploding 76-degree double turn. Then we rocketed up that little hill and back into the station. I knew that we were going around again, so I wasn’t surprised when we went up that 18-foot hill again. After we went around that course again, I knew that ride was over-but we went across the track layout again! This was a first. When I climbed off the seat, I was even dizzier! After a while, I found myself walking into the van. I realized that new things can be fun.
